Todai Fellowship is financial support to international students who are enrolling in doctoral courses at The University of Tokyo. The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) will award this research grant-in-aid to outstanding, self-financed international students to focus on their academic research obtaining the degree as well as to promote the enrolment of excellent international students to GSFS.

GSFS offers The University of Tokyo “World-leading Innovative Graduate Study Program in Proactive Environmental Studies” (WINGS-PES) , which is an integrated five-year master-doctoral program, aiming to develop “Environmental Knowledge Professionals.”
There are two categories. Only UTSIP alumni are eligible to apply for “Category 2” with 5-year financial support.

GSFS has a system whereby prospective students are screened for a specific scholarship program (mainly by document screening) separately from the ordinary entrance examination, and are recommend to the scholarship program. The Japanese Government Scholarship (University Recommendation) and the Asian Development Bank Scholarship Program fall into this category. Depending on the department you wish to enroll, scholarship program you can apply are differet. For details, please check here.

Information on Private Foundation scholarships can also be found on the University of Tokyo website. If the GSFS receives a nomination slot, we post a call for applications on the above website.
Prospective students should first check the scholarship information on the University of Tokyo website, and then check the GSFS website whether the GSFS is calling for applications for the scholarship you would like to apply.
