Notice to Persons Entering Japan

Regarding the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), considering that the infection is spreading worldwide, the government has taken steps to: (1) strengthen quarantine, (2) restrict the arrival of flights to Narita International Airport and Kansai International Airport (3) suspend single or multiple entry visas that have already been issued, with respect to China, and the Republic of Korea.
1. All persons entering Japan from China or Republic of Korea by aircraft or other means, including persons without symptoms of illness, will be requested to stay for 14 days at a place designated by the Quarantine Station Chief (such as their homes), and not to use public transportation for any purpose, including transport from airports, etc.
【Things to do before departing to Japan】
○ Be sure that a 14-day quarantine and non use of public transportation (if requested) will not interfere with your itinerary after you enter Japan.
○ Before entering Japan, be sure to secure an accommodation in Japan where you can stay for 14 days in quarantine (especially important for overseas visitors, who have no homes of their own in the country).
○ Be sure to secure a means of private transportation from the airport to your destination (you will not be permitted to use public transportation).
If you are international students who hold status of residence in Japan, and have re-entry permission, you can enter Japan from China or Republic of Korea.
However, you will be requested to stay for 14 days at your home or hotel, and not to use public transportation, including taxis.
Further efforts to strengthen quarantine measures include:
(1) suspending single or multiple entry visas that have already been issued, with respect to China, and the Republic of Korea
(2) suspending visa waivers for Hong Kong, Macau and the Republic of Korea
These measures will be operational from midnight on March 9 and will be implemented until the end of March. (and this period may be extended.)
Under this measure, new international students from China and the Republic of Korea will not be able to enter Japan from midnight on March 9 to the end of March.
In accordance with the Immigration Control and Refugee Act, we additionally deny the entry of foreign nationals who are coming from areas including: the Republic of Korea: North Gyeongsang Province Gyeongsan City, Andong City, Yeongcheon City, Chilgok County, Uiseong County, Seongju County, Cheongdo County and Iran: Com State, Tehran, Giran State.
These areas are previously restricted areas in China that included: Hubei Province, Zhejiang Province, and the Republic of Korea that included: Daegu City, Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
